P2 Book Launch Party

Our book launch was great fun today. Fionn McArthur from radio Orkney came and interviewed us, listened to us perform the Gruffalo song and then he read our Mummy Gruffalo stories to our mums and dads. We then all had a party. It was great. Slide show coming soon!

Our Gruffalo Writing Project

This week we have been learning how to describe a character in our writing by drawing and labelling a Gruffalo.  Here are a few of our drawings.

Alphabetical Order!

Primary 2 have been revising their alphabet.  We will be looking at putting words in alphabetical order soon.  This will help us use our dictionaries.  Maybe we could practise this at home?

Counting numbers to 100

Last week we had such fun counting numbers to 100 with nearly everything in our class. We used plates, counters, straws - you name it we counted it! We were practising numbers after, numbers before and numbers inbetween. We were bridging tens, e.g 89 +2, 99 +2 and even backwards counting. We are getting really agile with our numbers.

Bat Walk 12.10.11

Tonight we all went on our bat walk with our families at the back of the Firth Kirk with Sue Whitworth. We had lots of fun in the the dark chasing each other pretending to be bats and moths. We heard two bats on the bat detectors and Nell's mum saw a bat. We had lots of fun as you can see from the pictures below. Sue made us hot chocolate and bat biscuits. They were yummy. Thanks Sue for a great night out in the dark.

Pier Arts Centre Visit

Yesterday during our art time we visited the Pier Art Centre with Mrs Watson our art teacher, Ruben's mum and Mrs Ritchie. We had to look very carefully at the paintings of Sylvia Wishart a local artist and spot the above objects in her paintings. It was interesting and fun to walk round the centre and look at all the paintings.

Our new learning logs

Dear Parents,

We are using learning logs this term as a way to help us reflect on our learning and share it with you.

Please could you find time to look at my learning targets.  These are the key aspects of learning that we are covering this week.  We will have coloured in the traffic lights to show how well we think we have done this week (green = good understanding,  yellow = developing an understanding, red = finding this difficult).

We will have drawn a picture and maybe added some words about what went well this week and what  we think that we could have done better.  Please ask me about this and read the teacher’s comment.  Then add a comment of your own in the Parent Comment box.
We will be bringing this book home on a Friday, please could you remind me to take it back to school on a Monday.

Thank you.

Day and Night

On Tuesday we were investigating why there is day time and night time. We learned that the planet earth takes 24 hrs to turn on its axis.
We have travelled 6 times round the Sun and Mr Taylor has been round the Sun 46 times!!!. Investigating is interesting.
